Dr. Martens will finally debut the festivities and celebrate its 50th anniversary from April 1st, 2010.
It's based on its "1460" model, born on April, 1st 1960 and released from the first production line owned by R Griggs & Co at that time that the famous English brand, created by the German inventor Klaus Maertens, will devote its first festivities. For 5 decades, the boot with yellow topstitches, the grooved sole and the back tongue, was worn by workers with foot injuries and for whom it was designed at the initial. It was also worn by number of various rebels and nonconformists. The skinheads were the first to adopt it, followed later by other subcultures and many musicians, captured by its authenticity and its "working class" side.
For its 50th anniversary, the homespun brand gets closer to music by asking 10 bands contemporary and 10 directors, which will be announced on Internet on April 1st. 10 cult songs will be reinterpreted by an international and heteroclite selection of talented artists with unique musical genres. Will result a collection of songs and videos which will reflect the diversity of groups who have adopted and customized Dr. Martens these past 50 years.
Also, Dr. Martens will unveil limited edition of the "1460" models and its low version called "1461". Both models will be available in two colors: Black and Cherry Red. 1460 copies (per color) of the 1460 and 1461 copies (per color) of the 1461 will be distributed in selected international retailers. The stem of these shoes was made in polished grained leather, associated with a tongue, eyelet and golden insole.
